Lee Chae-woon, 1st place in snowboard halfpipe preliminary round, advances to finals

Lee Chae-woon,arrow-up-right Korea's leading snowboarder, is showing off his spectacular performance in the men's halfpipe preliminaries held at the Welli Hilli Park Ski Resort in Hoengseong, Gangwon-do on the 1st.

Lee Chae-woon (18, Surigo High School), known as a 'snowboarding genius', announced his prospects for becoming the first Korean athlete to win two gold medals at the 2024 Gangwon Winter Youth Olympic Games (Gangwon 2024).

Lee Chae-woon ranked first out of 16 people with 89.50 points in the men's snowboard halfpipe preliminaries held at the Welli Hilli Park Ski Resort in Hoengseong-gun, Gangwon-do on the 1st.

Halfpipe is a sport that performs tricks on a slope using a structure that looks like a pipe cut in half. After two matches in the preliminaries, the top 10 players, based on their higher scores, advance to the finals.

Lee Chae-woon, who scored 86.00 points in the first run, showed flawless performance in the second run and raised his score to 89.50 points.

Second place was Yamada Ryuseiarrow-up-right (Japan, 85.75 points), and third place was Alessandro Barbieri (USA, 84.00 points).

Lee Chae-woon will challenge for the gold medal in the finals starting at 3 PM on this day. In the finals, rankings are determined by the highest score after three rounds of driving.

Lee Chae-woon, who previously won a gold medal in slopestyle, did not compete in the big air event but adjusted his condition to prepare for his main event, the halfpipe event.

If Lee Chae-woon wins the gold medal, he will become the first Korean athlete to win two gold medals in this competition.

Depending on the results of Kim Hyun-gyeom (Han Advertising), who competed in the figure skating team event on the same day, Lee Chae-woon may become the only athlete to win two gold medals.

Meanwhile, Lee Ji-oh arrow-up-right(Yangpyeong Middle School), who participated with Lee Chae-woon, scored 73.00 points and advanced to the finals in 6th place overall.
