‘I see two gold medals’

Lee Chae-woon, 1st place in snowboard halfpipe preliminary round, advances to finals

Lee Chae-woon, Korea's leading snowboarder, is showing off his spectacular performance in the men's halfpipe preliminaries held at the Welli Hilli Park Ski Resort in Hoengseong, Gangwon-do on the 1st.

Lee Chae-woon (18, Surigo High School), known as a 'snowboarding genius', announced his prospects for becoming the first Korean athlete to win two gold medals at the 2024 Gangwon Winter Youth Olympic Games (Gangwon 2024).

Lee Chae-woon ranked first out of 16 people with 89.50 points in the men's snowboard halfpipe preliminaries held at the Welli Hilli Park Ski Resort in Hoengseong-gun, Gangwon-do on the 1st.

Halfpipe is a sport that performs tricks on a slope using a structure that looks like a pipe cut in half. After two matches in the preliminaries, the top 10 players, based on their higher scores, advance to the finals.

Lee Chae-woon, who scored 86.00 points in the first run, showed flawless performance in the second run and raised his score to 89.50 points.

Second place was Yamada Ryusei (Japan, 85.75 points), and third place was Alessandro Barbieri (USA, 84.00 points).

Lee Chae-woon will challenge for the gold medal in the finals starting at 3 PM on this day. In the finals, rankings are determined by the highest score after three rounds of driving.

Lee Chae-woon, who previously won a gold medal in slopestyle, did not compete in the big air event but adjusted his condition to prepare for his main event, the halfpipe event.

If Lee Chae-woon wins the gold medal, he will become the first Korean athlete to win two gold medals in this competition.

Depending on the results of Kim Hyun-gyeom (Han Advertising), who competed in the figure skating team event on the same day, Lee Chae-woon may become the only athlete to win two gold medals.

Meanwhile, Lee Ji-oh (Yangpyeong Middle School), who participated with Lee Chae-woon, scored 73.00 points and advanced to the finals in 6th place overall.

Choi Seo-woo (Incheon Yonghyeon Girls' Middle School), who competed in the women's halfpipe, also secured a ticket to the finals in 10th place. Heo Young-hyeon (Maehol Middle School), who also competed, placed 15th and failed to advance to the finals. 토토
